A lot has happened in the NHL world with just over a week remaining before regular season play. From a major contract extension to a stadium renewal, to significant injuries, all of it will be covered here.
Ducks, McTavish reach agreement
The Anaheim Ducks have signed forward Mason McTavish to a six-year extension with an average annual value (AAV) of seven million dollars. McTavish, 22, had 22 goals and 52 points in 70 games with Anaheim last season. In his career, he has scored 60 goals and 140 points in 229 career games with the Ducks.
McTavish was one of the last big names who had not signed a contract extension before the pre-season, along side Devils defenseman Luke Hughes, and Predators forward Luke Evangelista. His contract will expire in 2031, when he is 28-years old.
Sabres extend Keybank Center lease until 2031
The Buffalo Sabres have extended their lease with Keybank Center for another 5 years. The team had the option of extending the lease or opt out of the deal on September 30th. Keybank Center has been the home of the Sabres since 1996. Sabres owner and CEO Terry Pegula believes that this is a good thing for both the team and the city.

Kraken’s Kaapo Kakko out 6 weeks
Seattle Kraken forward Kaapo Kakko has suffered a broken hand and will be out for at least the next six weeks, meaning his season debut will likely be sometime around mid November. The former 2nd overall pick was acquired by Seattle in a mid-season trade with the New York Rangers.
Kakko had 10 goals and 30 points with Seattle in 49 games, and it was enough for Seattle to give him an extension during the off-season. That contract is set to expire in 2028, making him an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at 27-years-old.
