Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar has announced that the 2025-26 season will be his last in the National Hockey League.
Kopitar, 38, will suit up for the Kings for one last season before hanging up the skates. He has been team captain since 2016, taking over from teammate Dustin Brown.
He was selected 11th overall by the Kings in the 2005 NHL draft, and made his NHL debut a year later in 2006.
In his career up to this point, Kopitar has 440 goals and 1,278 career points in 1,454 regular season games. More crucially, he had 27 goals and 89 points in 103 Stanley Cup Playoff games, and helped the Kings win two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014.
He also has two Selke trophies (2016, 2018), three Lady Byng trophies (2016, 2023, 2025), and a Mark Messier leadership award (2022).
He is considered as one of the greatest Kings off all time, and will likely have his number retired in the future.
