The Calgary Flames have announced that the team has signed forward Mikael Backlund to a two-year extension, with an average annual value (AAV) of $3.25M.
Backlund, 36, scored 15 goals and 32 points in 76 games with the Flames this past season. He has a career total of 215 goals and 563 points in 1,066 games, all with the Calgary Flames.
He was named team captain before the 2023-24 season, about a year after previous Flames captain Mark Giordano was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft.
His new contract kicks in for the 2026-27 season, and expires in 2028, when he turns 39-years-old.
