
The New York Rangers have named forward J.T. Miller as the 29th captain in franchise history.
Miller, 32, had 13 goals and 35 points in 32 games with the Rangers last season. The Rangers had acquired Miller in a mid-season trade with the Vancouver Canucks.
Miller takes over the captaincy from former Rangers defensemen Jacob Trouba, who was traded to the Anaheim Ducks less than two months prior.
Miller spent the first six seasons of his career with the Rangers from 2013-2018, scoring 72 goals and 172 points in341 games for the team. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2018 trade deadline.
Miller spent two seasons in Tampa, scoring 23 goals and 65 points in 94 games. He was soon traded to the Canucks in the 2019 off-season.
Miller had his best years with the Canucks, scoring career highs in goals and points in his first year with the team. Across six seasons, Miller scored 152 and 437 points with the Canucks in 404 games.
Miller is under contract with the Rangers for another five seasons, at an eight million dollar cap hit. His contract ends in 2030, when he turns 37 years old.
