The Seattle Kraken have agreed to terms on an extension for forward Kaapo Kakko. The 24-year-old signed a three year deal with an average annual value of $4.525M. He had 10 goals and 30 points in 49 games for the Kraken during the 2024/25 NHL season. He was eligible for arbitration, which was initially scheduled for July 25th.

Originally drafted 2nd overall by the New York Rangers, Kakko struggled to live up to the expectations of his draft position, scoring 61 goals and 131 points for the Rangers across six seasons. He was traded to Seattle on December 18th, 2024, in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen, and a third and sixth round pick in the 2025 NHL draft. The Rangers used those selections on defenseman Sean Barnhill (70th overall) and forward Samuel Jung (166th overall)
